The Greatest Festival on Earth

Well, not so long ago, when the Splendour In The Grass festival lineup came out, I found myself feeling mildly depressed (As I usually am when they announce their acts). These festivals honestly have the best lineups ever. Unfortunately though, tickets are over $500 for the 3 or so days it goes over. This is the main reason why I'm convinced I'll never actually make it there.

Instead, I've dreamt up my own festival, which I'll call "THE FESTIVAL OF MY DREAMS".
It would never happen, I know, since some of the bands and musicians are either dead or elderly these days. BUT JUST YOU IMAGINE!

The Festival of My Dreams would run over 6 days, near the beach. There'd be trees too. Plenty of 'em.

AND IT WOULD BE FREE.
WHO'S EXCITED NOW?!

Danger! Hazard! Caution!

Now, I know that you have just googled pictures of warning signs if you really wanted, but those could be from anywhere! Here, I've compiled some from Queensland. JUST ONE STATE. And apparently, a very dangerous one. Just take a look at these!

The thing is, that while there is an abundance of these signs, it definitely doesn't stop Australians. In fact, in the areas these signs applied to, I watched people swim and jump from waterfalls. So pretty much what the signs say not to do. Because you will die.

So there are a few options for what's going on here:

  1. Australia is an extremely dangerous place, but its inhabitants are too tough to care.
  2. Australia is an extremely dangerous place, and its inhabitants are idiots / are illiterate.
  3. Australia is not really that dangerous.
I'd probably have to say it's a mix of the three though. Just have a look at Arj Barker's take on the Australian response to dangerous wildlife.

I think he's got it pretty much summed up there. Bravo, Arjie Barjie!

Musical Recommendation: Week 10

Hello lovely people!
Hope you're doing well.

Today, after much deliberation, I've decided that Josh Pyke is the way to go. Mostly because he's incredibly talented and makes wonderful, wonderful music, but also partly because I have a teensy crush on him. (As I do with most musicians. A good example of who I don't have a crush on, are the members of Twisted Sister.) Now, I'm aware this isn't new music, but it is great music. So there.

Anywho! There's an abundance of Josh Pyke songs which I could recommend, but I'll choose three. Okay... four.

I'll start with this one: 'The Summer'
Chosen because it's just a great song, the lyrics are beautiful, and the film clip is really well done.

I was a little reluctant about using this video for the nect one, which is 'Sew My Name'.
The reason why, is that it's usually such a beautiful song. Except for in this clip, there's some idiot singing backup and he's totally ruining it. So I'm sorry that this is a somewhat disappointing taste of this song, but if you have the chance, find an official clip, and listen, listen, listen!

The next one is one of my most favourites, and it's called 'Middle of the Hill'.

And lastly, probably my very favourite song of Josh Pyke's., 'Where Two Oceans Meet', which, unfortunately, has no official film clip. So I'm going to sort of plug my friend Romy's blog (which is really good) here, and use a video that she made herself.

6. Montville / Maleny

A Quick Hello

G'day folks,

Well, it's already Easter, which is sort of hard to believe. The year's going so quickly!
Anyway, the main purpose of this is to just say a quick hello and thankyou to you all, and to say HAPPY FLIPPING EASTER, GUYS!

I'll be away for the break (I know, you're all devastated), but don't fret pets! I'll be back just in time to post the next Musical Recommendation! Some time away will give me plenty of opportunity to think of an extra good one.

Until then, have a squizz at these photos. I'm the person in them staring wistfully into the middle distance, and my friend Romy is the person who took them.

A Short Film

This is a short film I've been working on lately, comprised of over a thousand photographs of my friends and I. Just to be clear, the song isn't mine. I wish it was, but unfortunately, no, it belongs to Darren Hanlon. Who, incidentally, I love.
Enjoy!

Musical Recommendation: Week 9

It's Wednesday, Wednesday, gotta get down on-
No, don't worry, I'll never break out into Rebecca Black's 'Friday' ever, EVER again.
My apologies.

Anyway, it is Wednesday, and therefore time for another musically educational post.
This week, I have a song that's a couple of years old now, but awesome nonetheless. It's actually by a Brisbane band called Yves Klein Blue. I sort of love them. A lot.

So here's their song called 'Make Up Your Mind'. Enjoy the film clip too! It's really good!

Musical Recommendation: Week 8

This week's recommendation comes a week early, as means of apologising for last weeks being a day late. It wasn't my fault, I swear...

Anyway, I haven't been able to stop listening to this song since a friend of mine told me about it. So here it is! 'Bizness' by tUnE-yArDs. And this week, an official video, too! Oh, and if you click THIS, you can get a free mp3 of the song!

Musical Recommendation: Week 7

This week I've got a song for you that's fairly old. It's by The Stranglers, and it's called 'Golden Brown'. I first heard it when I watched a movie called He Died With A Felafel In His Hand, a favourite of mine. It's also been featured in a few other movies, and it's just a great song. No more blabbering, here's your music.

Pogo

Well, I've just been introduced by a friend of mine, to this great Australian DJ called Pogo. He remixes sound clips and samplings from films (lots of Disney ones!) and turns them into songs! It's pretty cool. Usually I'm not into that whole electronic thing, but as a closet (or not so closet) Disney fan, I sort of love this.

My favourite one is actually from a Pixar film. UP!
Enjoy!

PS: This is not this week's Musical Recommendation.

Sexy Food

An open letter to the culinary community:

Okay, I’d just like to clear something up. Food is not sexy. A person should not find it sexy, even call it sexy. Because food is not sexy. (Oh, by the way, the reason I use all these italics is to really stress how much this annoys me. You’re going to have to put up with it.)

You know, generally, I’m a pretty easy going person. Yeah, things annoy me, I get angry at them, but I don’t hold a permanent grudge. But I’m telling you; every time – every single time – I hear someone say that a certain type of food is “sexy” it drives me crazy. The irritation is so severe that I feel the need to write this up on my blog. So, um, yes, I’m not a fan.

It's just so sexy!

It seems to be mostly on those food and cooking types of TV shows that are so popular at the moment that cause the problem. The little judge, food critic, chef dudes all bouncing on their heels, making big hand gestures, and proclaiming: “I love it. Sexy! So sexy! OH MAN, IT’S SO SEXY! WOO! SEXAAAY!”

What the hell’s wrong with saying its great, or delicious, or scrumptious, or even yummo? Hmm?

I reckon by using the word “sexy” to describe food, what they’re really trying to do is make themselves seem sexy. I’m not going to name and shame the prime perpetrators of this crime, because that’s rude, but seriously dudes, if I hear one of those guys call food sexy again, I’m going to have to. It’s getting to me.

So, chef people of Australia, and the whole world, actually,
FOOD AINT SEXY!

Yours etc,

Hannah.
